The Beginnings of my TOS Star Fleet Uniform

I’ve put my poor old grandmother to work on my TOS Star Fleet uniform that I plan on wearing at the Star Trek convention at the Las Vegas Hilton, August 6th-9th.  The blue fabric was a BITCH to find and it’s still not the exact color from the show.  After hours and hours of searching through the Los Angeles Garment District for the right shade of blue, my grandmother finally exploded telling me, “Just be red! It’s going to be much easier to find red fabric than that blue!” So I exploded back with, “I have to be blue! You’ve seen the show! THE RED PEOPLE ALWAYS DIE!”

So as you can see, the dress doesn’t have any hems or the collar yet.  And it’s a little long.  From what my grandmother tells me, the dress pictured was actually just a practice run for her and she’s going to make me a whole new one but I’m going to try to convince her to finish this one and sell it!  Anyone out there interested??

One of these might make things a wee easier:

and the original uniforms were made of velour which can be strangely hard to find but is good because it’s stretchy.

But a lightweight knit might do you well and has a really nice texture

They used valour in the first and second season and a knit for the third. We got the knit. Walking around Vegas in August wearing valour would have been terrible.

The pattern I got looks correct and I did get the third season patches and braiding for rank from roddenbery.com. The boots are the last thing that I need. I’ll give that website a look.

Also, those reference pictures were great!

    Thanks Justin!
