Ah, Sheep

January 30th, 2010 by Amanda

Pink Chickens and now this?! Farmer Andrew Jack from Scotland started painting his sheep in bright colors to “spice things up” so people could smile on their way to and from work. That is so cute!!

“They are sprayed with animal-friendly paint, something they don’t mind at all, and they will remain colorful until sheared. It all started when the farmer wanted to paint them blue to mark St Andrew’s Day, but now that it has become an attraction in itself, the thought of using other colors as pink has crossed the farmers mind. Sheep has been used as ideas to several other things, like these sheep sculptures made out of rotary telephones.”

Hobbit House

January 25th, 2010 by Amanda

You are looking at pictures of a real life hobbit house. It was built in Wales by Simon Dale, his family, and friends and took only 4 months. It was also built from natural materials with maximum regard for the environment which gives them “a unique opportunity to live close to nature.” I think my favorite thing about this house, besides the fact that it’s awesome and would do J.R.R. Tolkien proud, is that it really is dug into a hillside, making this a truly authentic house suitable for The Shire.

And there’s a slideshow!

You can view all of the construction here.

Pink Chickens?!

January 2nd, 2010 by Amanda

I wouldn’t have believed this was real had my friend not taken the picture herself.
In Bali, apparently there are rare pink chickens, supposedly they are not dyed, although some people say they are dyed as babies, either way they are really cute. I like to believe that they are real.

Here are some other pink chickens that I found via the internet.

Kate Bush or alien in disguise?

December 10th, 2009 by Senna

Kate Bush is one of my favorite outlandish musicians.  Almost as much as Bjork. Wouldn’t it be awesome if she was actually an alien from a theatrical, campy planet? Maybe she’s from the same galaxy as Lady Gaga…FantasyIRL to form intergalactic alliance of aliens turned pop stars!

ITSOK

Via The Vulcan & The Unicorn

Project ITSOK: by Sighn life’s focus is on a potentially impossible feat, a hand cut one million wooden cut outs simply reading “IT’S OK”. The end result of this 50 year venture will result in a piece entitled: one million times it’s ok. Every piece is numbered as a part of the “Limited” Edition of 1 Million. For every one bought, one tree will be planted through The Arbor Day Foundation.

Robots & Starships: Unique Playgrounds From The 70′s

October 10th, 2009 by Sydney

I actually never really liked going to playgrounds when I was little.  Bad things would always happen to me at them.  One time I stepped on a piece of glass.  Another time someone tried to steal me.  And another time I broke my leg.  And this other time I sprained my tailbone.  And another time I got the biggest splinter of my life.  It was like… two inches wide.  But I bet if playgrounds were as cool as these ones from the 70′s, I probably would have been more motivated to climb the shit out of those jungle gyms.  But they weren’t.  So I wasn’t.

15 Most Bizarre Animals

October 9th, 2009 by Amanda

I do love the weird animals, and thanks to Webecoist there are 15 even crazier ones to blog about. These are my favorites. You can view them all here.

Giant Isopod:

Cloverfield anyone? “If you’re afraid of bugs, you’re really not going to like the Giant Isopod. It resembles nothing so much as a cockroach the size of a guinea pig, but it’s actually a crustacean related to shrimp and crabs. These scavengers roam the cold, dark sea floor from 560ft to 7,000ft below the surface of the ocean, eating mostly dead whales, fish, and squid.” DEAD WHALES?!

Yeti Crab:

I’m sure our friends at Ilovetheyeti would like this. “With its long, furry appendages, the newly-discovered Yeti Crab looks like some kind of sea sloth. It was discovered on the floor of the Pacific Ocean during a deep-sea diving expedition in 2006 and is so unusual that a new taxonomic family had to be invented for it. The Yeti Crab is blind and white, with fur that supports colonies of bacteria. It lives near hydrothermal vents 7,540 feet under the surface.”

Horror Frog:

It may not look that creepy, but looks can be misleading. This little guy has the ability to break its bones so that they puncture its toe pads, producing extendable claws on demand when threatened. It was only discovered in 2008.

Dumbo Octopus:

It’s kinda cute. “Strange as the Dumbo Octopus may be, some people actually think it’s pretty cute” Hey that’s what I said!! “‘Dumbo’ can be found in the dark depths of any ocean on Earth and grows up to 20cm in length. It swallows its prey, made up of mostly worms and crustaceans, whole.”

It’s Baaaaaccccckkkkkk…

HOLY SHIT!! Okay so, some of you may remember this thing from a previous post.
If not please click here

…Okay now that we’re all caught up, I was reading Strawberry Anarchy today and came across this.

“Hey readers, you may have heard of this before but I thought I would blog about it as I wanted to have a discussion about it! This strange creature has been found and nobody can really explain what it is! Apparently some kids were playing beside the water and this thing came crawling out of the water/cave they thought it was going to attack them so they threw stones at it and killed it, they threw it into the water then it was washed up a few days later! In the video you can see the carcass of this animal too! And you will see this was most definitely found and not a hoax! I have included a photo of a sloth as many think this is just a bald sloth. Either way a bald sloth has never been spotted before now so this is still pretty strange also the fact it came out of the water does not make sense either.”

So, I don’t know about you all, but the first thing that popped into my head was the Montauk Monster (please see picture at top of page). What the hell man?! Why would those kids kill it?! It needs to be studied! So here’s the million dollar question, just a simple cute sloth? Or creepy mysterious monster?

Starfleet Realty?!

September 18th, 2009 by Sydney

SFR_logoDriving home from school the other day, stuck in traffic downtown, I noticed the car in front of me, some sort of black SUV Acura, had one of those frames around it’s license plate that read, “Starfleet Reality.”  I thought to myself, “That can’t be a Star Trek reference… or can it?”

It was.

When I got home, I looked up StarfleetReality.com.  At first glance, the website looked pretty normal and trekless.  And then I read the about page.

“At Starfleet Realty, our prime directive is to provide state-of-the-art customer service. We believe in the beauty of the human spirit and we are firmly committed to treating everyone with respect and dignity… Although it is a big planet, we will help you find your place in it.”

A few days later, I was at school again and parked outside the art buildings guess what car I saw! The same black Acura with the Starfleet Realty frame around its license plate!  ZOMG!  Shit, why didn’t I take a picture of it!?!!  I’m thinking I should probably leave a note on the car if I ever see it again.  I’d love to talk to them, or whoever they know from the company.  I do kind of wish they just would have gone all out with their trekdom, instead of hiding bit and pieces of it on their about page.  You know, like those Star Trek dentists in Trekkies.  That would be awesome!

WHAT THE FUCK, MAN!?!?! TWILIGHT SEX TOYS?!!?!?

September 3rd, 2009 by Sydney

So basically, this makes me really uncomfortable…

500x_Tantus

It’s called The Vamp and can be bought here if, for whatever reason, you’re interested.  Not only does it sparkle like Edward, but you can stick it in the refrigerator and it will stay cold… like Edward…  apparently… I guess.  I dunno, man.  I don’t want to think about this.  Why the fuck would anyone want to put this in the refrigerator and then put it inside them? I don’t care how much you like vampires (*cough AMANDA cough*).

But yeeeeeeeeeah… does anyone remember that time in Twilight when Edward uh… explodes a little bit the first time he sees (or smells or whatever) Bella?! BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Thank you io9 for making me, like Edward, explode a little, but out of my mouth… with vomit.

Shipwrecked Submarine Den

September 3rd, 2009 by Amanda

Basically, the coolest thing ever.

Steampunk Home says:

I don’t know what it is, but media rooms and submarines seem to go together. Here’s one from New Zealand, sent by Paul and featured in stuff.co.nz.

In the rusting interior of the submarine, which appears to have beached on a deserted island, Eyre has all the creature comforts reclining chairs, a three-metre big-screen TV and a top-notch surround-sound system.

Customwood has been sprayed with concrete and painted to resemble rusting steel beams, while plastic sheets have been melted to give the impression of bent steel ripped apart when the submarine hit an island. Speakers emit sonar and ocean sounds throughout the 12-metre by 5.5m room.”

There’s also a video tour!

Do You Want To Date My Avatar?

August 31st, 2009 by Amanda

This is pretty ridiculous and I feel requires little to no explanation.

Unfortunately, this hits very close to home with me. I was harassed quite a bit from people wanting to do naughty things to my Night Elf when I played World of Warcraft. Ah sweet memories…

Thanks Cosplay in America for this gem.
