Fantasy IRL Update + Sydney’s Looking for Cyber Cafes and Arcades in the SoCal Area

October 4th, 2009 by Sydney

We’ve taken a break from the convention circuit and are trying to focus on making work for the exhibitions we’re set to be in over the next year. (There are three of them so far!)

internetcafe-main_Full

Right now, as research for my latest project, I’m looking for internet/cyber cafes and arcades in Los Angeles. I’m having a hard time finding ones that I don’t already know about and I actually haven’t been able to find out about many news ones through the internet. Does anyone have any suggestions? As far as the aesthetic, think dark, grungy, punky looking cafes and bright, sensory-overloading arcades.  If you know of any, let me know at sydney@fantasyirl.net. Thanks!

Maromi IRL

July 17th, 2009 by Senna

So I guess I am a sucker for anime plushies…yesterday I bought a somewhat rare character plush of Maromi from Paranoia Agent.  It’s a cute little pink dog-creature that ends up being rather evil.  Without giving away the plot of the series, it’s creepy.  And now it just stares at me.  I’m not sure how to feel about Maromi, but I better stay on his good side.

Real Life Sea Monsters

July 16th, 2009 by Amanda

Who-Sucks.com says:

“The sea contains untold numbers of strange and bizarre creatures. It is said that we know more about our own solar system than we know about our oceans.

Indeed, some creatures of the sea can seem more alien than anything you can imagine.

But even worse, some of them can seem more frightening than your worst nightmare.

Below we have collected pictures of 24 CREATURES FROM THE DEEP!”

I personally have a fear of the ocean, especially anything that lives in it. Some of these are really cool but some I seriously cannot handle. How can we sleep at night knowing half of these are out there?! I can say one thing for sure though, these definitely do not suck.

Here are my favorites.

Wanna Get Famous?

July 12th, 2009 by Amanda

Rock Band is holding a contest right now where you can win a VMA. I know right? All you have to do is make a Rock Band music video and you and your band could win an MTV Video Music Award for “Best Performance in a Pepsi Rock Band Video.” That’s right! Your very own Moon Man. Contest ends July 28th so I would get on this now.

Get Your World of Warcraft Figure Prints Here!

June 25th, 2009 by Senna

I guess Amanda’s right, WoW really is taking over the world…

I found Figure Prints on Offworld this morning, a magical website that takes your fully epic-geared (or not) characters and produces little statues of them for you to keep and proudly display with your figurines of superheroes (or villans), gundams, and the like.  The production process is quite interesting-its called rapid prototyping, where hundreds of little pieces of paper the make up thin slices of your character are glued together to form the overall shape.  They are then heated up and polished individually.  Pretty neat, huh!  Once I hit 80, I think I might just have to indulge.  They seem like they would make great gifts for your wowhead friends, too.  Oh!  And you can even purchase little pet models so that they’ll never be lonely.  If interested, make sure you check out the video on how they are made-some pretty precise manufacturing.

Living with The GRIM

June 11th, 2009 by Sydney

I’m taking care of one of my grandfather’s dog at my house for the next few weeks… and he looks like the Grim from Harry Potter!!  I don’t know.  I think he looks like the Grim.  Well, whatever anyone thinks, it’s still really scary waking up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and seeing that in your doorway.

I mean, I guess the Grim ends up being Sirius Black, one of my favorite characters. Maybe Rex is an animagus and he’s just waiting for the perfect moment to turn into Gary Oldman! Be still, my heart.

Adventures in Brawl Land

June 6th, 2009 by Senna

Senna reporting for duty!

Over the past year I have attended more Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournaments than I can remember.  This post is dedicated to a very talented Solid Snake player who I think will make it very far.  His unordinarily risk-taking and sometimes flashy style defines him, and everyone I know respects him for it.  He is none other than Los Angeles SSBB player, AJAX.  Root for him at Genesis and Evo if you make it out!

The match I’ve linked will give you a good example of what you would expect to see if you saw him play.  Don’t remember seeing this  live so it may be a little older, but enjoy!
